When Sitting Down and Standing Up Becomes Painful

As we grow older, it tends to become harder for us to perform some tasks and even move around because of the pain that we may feel on our joints and muscles. For a young and healthy person, something as simple as getting up from a couch or chair may seem like an easy thing to do, but for seniors suffering from a bad arthritis, getting up from a chair can be a very exhausting and painful task. With the use of lift chairs, the pain associated with getting in and out of a chair can be greatly reduced and even eliminated.

When getting up from a chair or a regular recliner, people use their abdominal muscles and hips to bring their torso forward, and then use their knees and leg muscles to lift themselves out of the chair. As they begin to stand up, the ankles and feet provide balance for the body. When a person is suffering from arthritis or rheumatism, the joints and sometimes the tissues around the joints ache and even swell, making it very painful to move and put even a little pressure on them.

With the lift chair, the person won’t have the difficulty of sitting on or standing from a chair because the chair itself does what the joints and muscles would normally do. The lift chair will safely put its occupant in an almost vertical position so that he doesn’t have to put as much pressure or stress on his joints and knees when getting out of the chair.
