The disciplines usually involved in interior designing jobs consist of craft skills, structure, function, specialized performance, special group needs, business discipline, computer technology, aesthetic disciplines and presentation skills. Interior designers do not only need to be creative, they also need to be adept in science and technology.

Interior design can be divided into two types; decorative and structural design. Decorative design is based on good placement, proper proportion and appropriateness to the basic structure. Structural design on the other hand is based on good proportion, simplicity, the use of appropriate materials and the suitability for the way the space will be used.
