La Quinceañera: Welcoming a Latina to Womanhood
La Quinceañera, which is also commonly called Quince Anos is one of the most precious moments in a young girl’s life. It refers to the sweet 15 party in Latin communities all over the world which symbolizes the beginning of the celebrant’s womanhood. Just like in debuts and in sweet sixteen parties, many La Quinceañera celebrants prefer to use pink as the motif for this special event. Pink LED Christmas lights combined with decorations and music that best reflect on the celebrant’s personality are used to adorn the venue of the celebration.
From the outside view of the ceremony, La Quinceañera party may seem just like a very dressed up version of a sweet sixteen party or any coming out party. It has an exquisite and elaborate ceremony with the sweet 15 celebrant wearing a beautiful gown and a tiara. However, once we look behind the fancy dress, the warm atmosphere created by those pink little lights, the beautiful young girl and the fancy decorations, we will see the history and the cultural value behind the celebration of the Quince Anos.
Many young Latinas and their families dream of a major La Quinceañera party. However, the expenses associated with a fancy party may be a problem for some families. But with the help of friends and relatives with sewing skills, well crafted home made decorations, a bit of creative planning, some good Christmas lights and music, anyone can have a traditional La Quinceañera party while staying within the family budget.
The Elements of a Chinese Wedding Invitation
Chinese Wedding Invitations have certain elements in them that are not present in ordinary wedding invitations. Thus, couples who are having a Chinese wedding should remember to include such elements in their invitations.
Traditionally, Chinese wedding invitations are red in color. Red is used by Chinese people in auspicious events such as weddings, festivals and New Year. However, modern Chinese weddings that have western culture influence are now using colors such as pink, maroon, purple and magenta. The symbols and wordings are commonly in gold or silver color because they symbolize good fortune and prosperity. Another element present in Chinese wedding invitations is the double happiness. The Chinese character “double happiness” is quite interesting because it looks like two people standing side by side or a couple standing together. Many Chinese wedding invitations have the symbol of the pair of dragon and phoenix. The dragon has long been the symbol of Chinese people and China in general. When the dragon is paired with the phoenix, the dragon represents the groom and the phoenix represents the bride. The dragon and the phoenix, when paired together, are interpreted as a perfect couple.
A pair of chickens is another interesting element present in most Chinese wedding invitations. In the Chinese language, chicken is called “Ji”, a word with a pronunciation similar to another character in Chinese which means good luck. A pair of chickens is considered a blessing to the couple.
Creating Christmas Ornaments as a Family Activity
Christmas is one of the most awaited times of the year. This is the time that most people get busy on shopping for gifts, decorations and gatherings. Many families enjoy decorating Christmas trees for the season.
Creating homemade Christmas tree ornaments can be a fun activity for the whole family. It is also a great chance to teach the kids how to be creative and make them learn how to appreciate their own creations. While there are many families who want to stick with buying commercial decorations in order to create a showpiece for their presentation of holiday tree, some families love to sit around and create homemade decorations using household materials and craft tools. Used candy wrappers, bottle caps and popsicle sticks can be made into colorful decorations with just a little creativity. Some sticks can be painted to look like candy canes while some bottles can be designed to resemble reindeers.
The decorating project can be as simple or as complex as the parents wish but it is important that they keep in mind the attention span of the kids involved in the project. Younger kids tend to have a shorter attention span and thus parents must keep them encouraged to create the decorations or be ready to finish the half-done projects their kids may leave behind.
